YOUNG
LEADERS

Creating Young Leaders

At Northern Hope Gymnastics, we’re proud to support and grow the next generation of coaches, role models, and team players through our Young Leaders Programme.

Open to enthusiastic volunteers aged 11+, our Young Leaders assist in beginner classes, help at events and competitions, and follow the British Gymnastics Leadership Academy pathway – developing real skills for life, sport, and future careers.

The programme offers opportunities to:

  • Learn valuable coaching skills under the guidance of experienced mentors
  • Gain experience in event support, planning, and teamwork
  • Build confidence, communication, and leadership abilities
  • Create a record of achievement that looks fantastic on a CV or college application
  • Earn credits through volunteer hours, which can help pay for coaching and judging courses

Our Young Leaders follow five development areas:

  1. My Learning – complete coaching and leadership courses
  2. My Development – learn from a mentor within the club
  3. My Volunteering – support classes, events, and club activities
  4. My Future – set goals and build a personal development plan
  5. My Project – plan and lead a project that benefits the club

Whether you’re aiming for a future in coaching or just want to give back and grow your confidence, the Young Leaders Programme is a fun and rewarding way to stay involved in the sport.

If you’re aged 11 or over and want to get involved, speak to a coach or use the contact form.

Teaching Vital Skills

Communication Skills

Young leaders will learn how to effectively communicate with both gymnasts and coaches, ensuring clear instructions, active listening, and providing positive feedback.

Teamwork and Collaboration

Emphasising the importance of working together, young leaders will develop skills in cooperation, sharing responsibilities, and supporting each other to achieve common goals.

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making:

Young leaders will be trained to think critically and make quick, thoughtful decisions, especially in challenging situations, helping them build confidence in their leadership abilities.

Working with kids with special needs

Our Young Leaders Program offers a unique opportunity for participants to work directly with gymnasts with special needs, fostering an inclusive environment where all athletes can thrive. By engaging with these gymnasts, our young leaders gain valuable experience in adapting their coaching techniques and communication styles, building empathy, patience, and leadership skills. This experience not only enriches their personal growth but also equips them with the tools to support gymnasts in a way that promotes confidence and success. Ultimately, this helps create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone involved.

Help Fund
Coaching Courses

We’re excited about the potential of our Young Leaders Program and the skills it’s helping develop in our future coaches. However, to truly give them the best opportunity to grow, we’re seeking support to help fund their coaching qualifications when they reach the appropriate age. With your contribution, we can offer these young leaders the chance to formalise their training, giving them the tools to not only further their own careers but to continue giving back to the gymnastics community. Your support would make an incredible difference, helping shape the next generation of skilled, passionate coaches.
